After a meal with many carbohydrates, your body normally makes insulin. The carbohydrates make your blood sugar level rise, which is brought back to the required level by the insulin.
If no or too little insulin is made, this process will not go well. A too high blood sugar level can be dangerous. But how do you recognize this? Here are a few signs that could indicate a high blood sugar level.
First, a warning: Do not walk around for too long with a high blood sugar level, as this can be life-threatening. It can damage organs and the brain. You are also much more likely to get an infection. An extremely high blood sugar level can even cause you to fall into a coma.
If you notice one of the symptoms below, then call your doctor immediately:
- Having recurring cystitis
- Itching, mainly around the genitals
- Vomiting
- Losing weight despite eating normally
- Feeling irritable
- Being very thirsty
- Being fatigued
- Having blurred or double vision
- Having trouble breathing
- Peeing a lot
